Biodiversity Action Day of the GEO magazine
If and how do we contemplate in our everyday routine over the number of species actually living around us? What would be different, if there were only a few or a few dozen species? Is the existence of a particular species essential for us, what are the interrelations of different species, how important is biodiversity and its sustainability?
The internationally published GEO magazine has arranged for the celebration of Biodiversity Action Days since 2001. The event is dedicated to the International Biodiversity Day on May 22 and its principal goal is introduction of biodiversity to a wider public and invitation to participants to get involved in preservation of the richness of nature. Biodiversity Action Days have over the years been conducted in almost 50 countries around the world.
This year the Biodiversity Action Day purports to be a pleasant co-event with the XXXVIII Kalev Summer Run and it will take place on Saturday, May 28, 2011 after the end of the race.
Together with experts we shall study what rare, unusual or typical species can be found around Voose village. Our guides will be the plant specialist Olev Abner, small mammals expert Udo Timm, birdwatcher Peet Veedla and insect researcher Uno Roosileht.
