Course-setter information:

Terrain:

Backbone of the terrain is formed by the NW-SE directional Voose-Matsimäe esker system which is surrounded by flat marsh and bog-areas. In the northern part, the esker system is moderately to strongly hilly with many negative land-forms. South of the Sae-Paunküla canal that splits the terrain into two, the esker system is more wide and flat with less clear relief-forms.

Runability is changeable from poor to very good, but in the most part average with reduced visibility. In the norther, i.e the hilliest part, there are many small natural open and semi-open areas (which have been mapped). Many small trees and trunks have fallen down in the winter under heavy snow and these reduce the runability quite significantly in some parts of the terrain. These areas have been marked on the map.Southern part of the terrain has been quite heavily logged in the past winter but the clearings are clean and provide good runability, although the extraction roads and rides leading to these are muddy and with deep tractor tracks. NB! Some of these extraction roads may not be mapped.

Road and path network is quite sparse in the northern half of the map and follows the direction of the esker; in the southern part which has seen more human impact, the network is more dense. In the northern part, there is also a regular network of rides which is missing in the south.

2 weeks ahead of the competition, marshes were wet but no floodes marshes with deep water were spotted in the course areas. There are beaver dams on some of the ditches and streams making them more difficult to cross.

Courses:

Due to the nature of the esker, the area used for the courses on the first day is rather long but narrow which means many controls close to each other in some areas and many crossings on the courses. NB! Connection lines can cross some controls – please check control numbers carefully! All the courses have been planned according to the difficulty set by age and difficulty categories, but are in no case too easy and demand good technical and physical abilities.
